• Shop Launch: One Gold Canary

I am very excited to announce the launch of my embroidery shop, One Gold Canary. I’ve had so much fun taking up embroidery as a side project this year. This small business has been an unexpected source of joy. I’ve made a lot of pet portraits, which delights me to no end; I’ve made aprons and garlands and embroideries with rap lyrics, and I’ve enjoyed working with customers to make personalized gifts. I am always accepting commissions. If you’re interested in commissioning something, just fill out the form on my website and I’ll send you my rates and options. Here are a few samples of pieces I’ve made:

    Enjoy! And happy holidays.

  • NASA

My mother’s cousin from New Castle, PA, Dr. Drew Morgan, was just selected to be one of the eight new astronauts for NASA.  This group, which includes four women, are headed to an asteroid and Mars.

I can’t believe that someone I know is going to space.  My dream as a child was to be the first astronaut concert pianist poet journalist — and this was something the adults in my life actively encouraged.  I imagined playing recitals on a floating piano, reading poetry inspired by zero-gravity, and reporting everything that happened to our crew to a webcam that was broadcast live to earth.

Though it seems a little too late to perfect the piano-playing skills and mathematical abilities that would render this dream attainable, I still can’t wait to interview Dr. Morgan and follow his experiences with NASA as part of the next generation of space explorers.
